Before we get too far into researching the necessary components of your business plan, you need to learn how to create a References page. By front loading this now, you will be able to keep track of your sources as you go along instead of trying to remember which sources you used at the end of the project.
So you get a little practice and get a head start on your References Page, you will create an APA Annotated Bibliography.
Your main tool for this assignment will be the The References Guide which will help you cite all the different sources used in the project.
Basic Formatting of an Annotated Bibliography
Annotated Bibliographies are useful in collecting resources for a research project.
We will use APA style formatting for the References page of your business plan.
Under each entry, there is a basic description about the resource like the example below:
Garvin, E. (2019). Insider's Guide to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Retrieved April 10, 2019,
from https://www.southernoregon.org/insiders-guide-to-the-oregon-shakespeare-festival/
Travel Southern Oregon is one of the best resources for "things to do" in southern Oregon. It covers coastal cities, the Cascade Lakes and mountain region, the Rogue Valley, the Klamath basin, and much more. It highlights several recreational activities such as the Hellgate Jet Boat Excursions, golf courses, rafting the Rogue and Klamath rivers, casinos, and so much more.
Instructions
You will create an APA style Annotated Bibliography that lists the following 5 sources:
- The Complete, 12-Step Guide to Starting a Business from Entrepreneur
- Pick an article and/or page from SOREDI
- Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy: Josephine and Jackson Counties
- Oregon Geography
- Central Point, Oregon Profile – SouthernOregon.com
Use the OSLIS Citation Maker or the Citation Machine to create the entries for the above 5 sources. Then, write 1-2 sentence description for each resource like in the example above – this is the "annotation".
Here's a tip: For each resource you stumble upon, bookmark it in your preferred web browser so you can find it later, even if you don't end up using it for your annotated bibliography.
Save as "annotated-bib" in your Business Plan folder
