LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION is the mantra of the the professional business world and if your business is placed in the correct one, you will be one happy camper.

For this particular section of the business plan, you have two options to consider for selecting your location:

  1. Option 1, go the realistic route – meaning that you select a location ONLY based on it's availiblity
  2. Option 2, assume that the location you would like to have is available even if it isn't

You may, of course, start your location search using Google Maps or its equivelent, but you should be aware of how much it'll cost you before you get your heart set on the perfect building. With that in mind, there are some resources out there to aid you in your search:

Analysis of Potential Location

Create an outline or bulleted list (not a list of answered questions) that addresses the information below. You may include the headings for formatting purposes.

BUSINESS LOCATION

  1. Give a street address - also include cross streets- a hybrid map on Google Local may help
  2. What town and what part of town is your business located in - north, south, etc?
  3. Are there compatible businesses near by?
  4. Who is the landlord and what is their contact information? - use Jackson County's Property Data Online

COMPETITION

  1. How far away from your business?
  2. What part of town are they in?
  3. Is the size of their bulding comparable?
  4. Are they located in an area with a lot of foot or car traffic?

TRAFFIC

  1. What type of traffic is necessary for your business to succeed)- (car, foot, heavy, light, or is delivery more important?)
  2. Where are people going when they drive by you?

AREA MAP

  1. Choose an appropriate area in your paper to insert a map of the area where your business is located. Modify the map in Photoshop to include the following
    • label proposed location of your business
    • label the location of your competition
  2. Insert an arial image or a front view image of the building
