Interview Prep – What You Need to Get Done

  1. Get an "old school" file folder from Sinks
  2. Make 3 signs that represent your company (8.5" x 11" )
    • Send to Sinks as an attachment if you want them printed in color
    • put one on the folder (nicely taped) and the other two will be used on your table during interviews.
  3. Create a Team Strategy – do the following in a new Word doc
    1. SECTION 1: Discuss and decide your attire – write this out as a sentence
    2. SECTION 2: Business Profile – research the following and format appropriately
      • What is the company's Mission statement/focus?
      • How is the company involved with the community? What is their role and involvement?
      • What is some recent news out about the company?
      • Some history of the company?
      • Information about company growth, how the stock is performing (if they are publically traded), etc.
    3. SECTION 3: Job description/primary responsiblities
      • Write a paragraph that outlines the specific job opening for your company (see table above) – you may "piece" together a description from other businesses if you can't find a specific job description for your company
    4. SECTION 4: Determine a list of questions for the interview – you will get roughly 6-7 minutes per candidate so plan to have "back up" questions to use as needed
      • REQUIRED: "Tell me about yourself"
      • 5-6 additional questions – use what you learned about the company to frame your questions
      • Check out uptowork.com for common interview questions
    5. SECTION 5: Evaluation
      • Each group will use this Applicant Evaluation Form to rate each candidate AFTER THE INTERVIEW has CONCLUDED
      • Discuss your process for note-taking during the interview – will you use sticky notes or scratch paper? Who will take notes on what? i.e., appearance, responses to questions, first half - second half, etc.
