CSB Goes to College
Each of you will choose a college or service. You will be responsible for researching the following information about the university or service you choose, specifics about the campus, fields of study (or base and specializations), and qualifications desired.
How to Get Started
Choose a college that you have the greatest interest in, or are planning to attend. This interest may be based on potential areas of study, location, or you may simply like the big time college atmosphere they offer. Think where you see yourself next year (or two years from now).
Spend some time browsing through:
- National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) for information and data on the school you are interested in – you'll need this data to complete the section below
- BigFuture from Collegeboard (use the college search)
College Bound – Find and Record the Data
Using information you find from National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), BigFuture from Collegeboard, and your school's website, find and record ALL of the following info in a new Word document:
- General Information
- Logo
- Mascot
- an image of campus or famous building
- Mission of the university
- Address,
- Phone
- website url
- Awards offered
- Student population
- Student to Faculty ratio
- Tuition and Fees (including if you are in-state or out-of-state)
- Tuition and Fees
- Books and Supplies
- Living arrangement (choose realistically - On Campus, Off Campus, Off Campus w/family)
- include other associated costs
- Admission Requirements
- Undergraduate Application Fee
- Number of applicants
- percent admitted
- percent admitted who enrolled (make this a pie chart to the side)
- SAT critical reading and math score - at the 25th% and 75%
- ACT composite - at the 25th% and 75%
- Admission considerations - secondary school gpa (this may not be listed)
- Application Deadlines
- Scholarship opportunites with admission to the school
- Program/Major
- Choose the specific area you would like to study – list that title
- List the number of associate degrees, bachelor degrees, and master degrees in your field
- Additional Facts
- Find a minimum of 4 different facts using BigFuture

Service Bound – Find and Record the Data
Thinking of joining a branch of the US Military? You will find and record the following data in a new Word document.

- Research and Answer the Following:
- How long do I have to enlist for? What's the minimum commitment?
- Am I eligible for any special enlistment programs or bonuses?
- What do I have to score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test to qualify?
- What are the major differences in pay, benefits and job opportunities between services?
- Are there films or literature about military life and particular jobs that I can find?
- How long is basic training? Where is it? What is it like?
- What physical fitness requirements must I meet to enter the military and succeed in basic training?
- What jobs are available?
- What are the possibilities for remote or overseas duty stations?
- What are the training and advancement opportunities for jobs that I'm eligible for?
- What would pay be like?
- Do I get paid while in training?
- How much money can I get for college?
- Can I take college courses or other training programs while in the military?
- Are there any upcoming military events in the area, such as airshows, fleet weeks, etc.?
- Can a friend and I go to basic training together?
- What are the haircut or other appearance standards that will apply to me?
- What's the delayed entry program?
- What are the next steps?
- Can I be in the service if I do not graduate from high school?
