Part 1: Current Events
Create a new Word document – the following will all be completed in the same document.
CNN Student News (list this as a heading in your Word doc)
- Watch CNN Student News for today, February 8th
- Write a summary of the entire broadcast from today (2/8) defining all the national and international news that is shown. Tell the who(s), what(s), where(s), when(s), why(s) and how(s)
- Write a pargraph detailing your reaction(s) to the segment
New York Times Learning Network (list this as a heading in your Word doc)
Read the following:
- Read THREE (3) different articles from Teenagers in the Times: January 2017
- For EACH article include:
- Title (at the top)
- Summary of the article (1 paragraph)
- Your reaction and/or position/opinion (1 paragraph)
- Compartmentalize what you read by answering the following questions:
- Which story or stories in this month’s edition were most interesting to you? To which article headlines and summaries did you have the strongest emotional reaction? Why?
- Which teenager profiled or quoted here would you most want to meet and talk to in person? What would you ask?
- If you had to present one of these articles to CSB which one would you profile? Why? What teen trends or controversies would you write about?
Remember to complete all the work and email them in as attachments in order to get full credit!
NOTE: There is no absolute rule; very short or long paragraphs can work when used by an experienced writer. However, as a guideline, paragraphs should usually be no less that 3-5 sentences long.
