The BIS Internship Experience
IMU #1: 1-16-18
- 100% completion will result in the student receiving a 5 for TODAY – anything less will be marked accordingly. STARTING NEXT WEEK, completion Internship Makeups will be worth 3.5 / 5.
- There will be no redos
- The assignment must be complete (with quality) during periods 3 and mini
- You will go to lunch after third and return for mini
The goal is for you to secure an internship TODAY.
Part 1: Make Some Calls
Using the list of places you researched for a possible internship site, make at LEAST 5 phone calls – if you get turned down all five times, MAKE 5 MORE CALLS. Use your Killer Cold Call Script to get the conversation started. Remember to take notes!
If you secure a lead to an internship site, and they ask you to bring a resume by or to talk to them in person, GO! but check out with us and the office first... (you may also stop at that point in the makeup assignment).
After you make your phone calls, do the following in a new Word doc:
- List the names of all the places you contacted, including phone numbers
- Who did you talk to? (List names and positions)
- What was the result?
Part 2: Current Events
Complete the following in the the same Word document from above:
CNN Student News (list this as a heading in your Word doc)
- Watch CNN Student News for today, January 16th, 2018
- Write a summary of the entire broadcast from today (2/1) defining all the national and international news that is shown. Tell the who(s), what(s), where(s), when(s), why(s) and how(s)
- Write a pargraph detailing your reaction(s) to the segment
New York Times Learning Network (list this as a heading in your Word doc)

Remember to complete all the work and submit via Synergy Dropbox under the appropriate Internship MU Week in order to get full credit!
NOTE: There is no absolute rule; very short or long paragraphs can work when used by an experienced writer. However, as a guideline, paragraphs should usually be no less that 3-5 sentences long.
