New York Times| Sixth Annual 15-Second Vocabulary Video Challenge

Using Premiere Rush, each of you will create a 15 second video for inclusion in the NYTimes Vocabulary Video Contest! You will pick a vocab word and using your creative FLOW, turn it into a great video! When you are finished with your NYT video challenge, you will upload it to YouTube, then share with Rogan and Sinks and with the NYTimes

In this project, students will create a short video about a vocabulary word using Adobe Rush CC.

Rules and Guidelines Q and A

  • Q. What are the NYTimes Rules?
  • A. All words must come from our Word of the Day feature

Check it out: all the Words published between Jan. 2 and Jan. 17, 2019 have a winning student-made video at the top to inspire you.)

    • Each word must be pronounced and defined, and the part of speech must be given. Please don’t forget; every year we have to disqualify many who fail to heed this rule.

    • All definitions must come from either the Word of the Day or Vocabulary.com. If there are several definitions, you may use just the first one if you like.

  • Q. Is there a list of all the words in a PDF format?
  • A. Here is a PDF of all 1,965 words the NYT has published through Jan. 17, 2019.
  • Q. How long should my video be?

    A. Your video should be no more than 15 seconds, but can be shorter.

    Q. How do I submit the video?

Post your video on YouTube, then post a link to that video in our comments section, along with tyour name. Include the name of the Crater School of Business, Innovation and Science. Please make sure you make your submission public so that we can see it without a password, and that you abide by the YouTube Terms of Service. (For example, please note what those Terms of Service have to say about the use of copyrighted music or sound effects and, instead, find royalty-free music and sound effects on Bensound or Freesound, or by using audio editing software to create your own music or sound effects.)

    Q. Will you judge my video if I don't post it to YouTube?

    A. No, we will only judge those videos posted to YouTube, not other services, since only YouTube videos easily embed in our system. Sinks and Rogan won't either.....

    Q. Do you have any advice?

    A. Use your imagination. You can act the word out, animate it, use puppets, draw, sing a song, create a dance, incorporate photographs, create a Claymation, or anything else that will help viewers understand and learn your word.

    • Q. When is the video due?

    A. It must be uploaded to YouTube and linked in the comment section of this page by Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. Eastern time. - You must also email the YouTube video link to Sinks and Rogan - Subject :DM Vocab Video - in the Body of the email - link to your video and answer this question - My favorite word in the dictionary is?
