Feature Benefit Chart of a Product You Want!

PRODUCT FEATURES

Product features are designed to satisfy consumer's needs and wants. In order to satisfy consumer's needs and wants, businesses combine the following features to help sell their products. They are broken up into three types:

Tangible product features: includes specifications, models, numbers, or names. (This would include the type of material a product is made from, its size, color, and weight.)
Extended product features: are the values, emotions, image, or special services including: sentimentality, love, convenience, prestige, status, comfort, warranties, instructions, delivery, or tech support.
Generic product features: are the customer's basic reason for purchasing the product. (Example: A car is for transportation.)

Each of you will pick a product that you want and define each of three product features for you product. You may create this in Word or Powerpoint (1 page or slide only - see example image). There are many cool features in both programs to create this.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

Your job is to create a visual storyboard of your product and the tangible, extended and generic product features and their benefits. Since a visual storyboard is a marketing tool, a good marketing professional would want to make sure all three types of features are covered.

Last night you were to think about a product that you are interested in. Choose your product. Automakers, Athletic Companies, Computer Companies, and Musical Instrument companies all do a good job of covering product features, so they may be a good choice in products.

So What Now?

Find a great image of the product you want - you should see if they have a website that lists their features

You need to list the following features and benefits of your product:

Identify at least
five tangible product features
three extended product features
one generic product feature

You will also need to list a benefit of each feature (think - what's in it for them)

In Essence

Create a visual storyboard similar to the one shown above using the three feature/benefit categories as an organizer and the sub-features/benefits you identified above.

Do this in Word or Power Point - Save as feature_benefit in you Intro folder and link up
